Warehouse hall with tall pallet racking in several rows

Monitor high-bay warehouses, detect misalignment early.

In the automated warehouse, alignment determines operation. Even a settlement of the foundation brings racking out of alignment. Wireless tilt sensors capture the angle change long before it becomes visible, and notify automatically when the stored threshold is exceeded.

Benefits for operations

Misalignment announces itself before you can see it

Settlement develops over weeks. Whoever measures it decides calmly about the intervention, instead of stopping the system when a pallet jams.

Detect deviation early

The sensor technology captures angle changes that are not noticeable to the naked eye. The development becomes visible while it is happening, not only at a failure.

Plan maintenance proactively

The trend shows when intervention becomes necessary. The measure follows the condition, not the calendar.

Avoid operational interruptions

An unplanned shutdown in the automated warehouse costs more than the repair itself. Detected early, the intervention can be scheduled into an operating pause.

Safety for people and goods

Staff, stacker cranes and stored goods are all equally affected by misalignment. The alert reaches those responsible immediately, on request additionally acoustic or visual on site.

What is at stake

Millimetres at the frame, standstill in the installation

An automated warehouse is designed for dimensional accuracy. If the geometry changes, it immediately affects the process.

  • The precise alignment of the racking is lost
  • The clearances to the stacker cranes change
  • The automated storage and retrieval process is disrupted
  • Pallets jam
  • Goods fall down

How it works

Four steps from measuring point to notification

The sensor technology requires no interference with the warehouse technology and can be retrofitted in a running installation.

  1. 01

    Define measuring points

The sensors sit at the critical points of the installation, typically in the upper area of the racking frames. That is where settlement of the foundation has the most noticeable effect.

  2. 02

    Capture tilt

Wireless tilt sensors, also called inclinometers, capture the smallest angle deviations of the frame. The sensor resolves changes from 0.001 degrees.

  3. 03

    Measure settlement as well

For the vertical displacement, tilt sensors with an integrated distance sensor are used. This makes settlement measurable in the millimetre range, together with the angle change in a single device.

  4. 04

    Transmit and alert

The battery-powered sensors transmit wirelessly to a central gateway, in real time or at a freely chosen interval. If a value exceeds the stored threshold, the system notifies automatically.

The sensor on the racking frame

On the racking frame, a single device measures both: the angle deviation of the frame and, with an integrated distance sensor, the vertical displacement.

From practice

Hundredths of a degree over several weeks

On a 15-metre-high row of racking, measurement over several weeks showed a gradual tilt increase of a few hundredths of a degree. The system raised the alarm in good time, before the misalignment became visible.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about high-bay warehouse monitoring

Why is a visual check in the warehouse not enough?
Because the change begins long before the visible misalignment. In the practice example, the increase over several weeks was a few hundredths of a degree. Nobody notices that in passing, but for automated operation it is already enough to change clearances and processes.
Where are the sensors mounted?
At the critical locations of the installation, typically in the upper area of the racking frames. That is where settlement of the foundation has the most noticeable effect as an angle change. Which racking rows and which points that are in the specific warehouse is clarified during the concept phase.
Does the sensor technology need cables or a power connection?
No. The sensors are battery-powered and transmit their readings wirelessly to a central gateway. This means they can also be retrofitted in an installation that is already running, without laying lines in the racking.
How often is measurement taken?
That is adjustable. Possible options are transmission in real time or freely chosen intervals. Which rate makes sense depends on how quickly the observed movement develops.
How am I informed about a deviation?
If a reading exceeds the stored threshold, the system automatically triggers a notification. On request, an additional acoustic or visual alert can be set up directly on site, so the notification also reaches people in the hall.
Is settlement measured alongside tilt?
Yes. The angle change is captured by the tilt sensor technology. For the vertical displacement, tilt sensors with an integrated distance sensor are used, making settlement measurable in the millimetre range. Which version suits which measuring point is defined during the concept phase.
