Manhole and access monitoring that reports instantly

Manhole covers, doors and hatches at distributed facilities are often freely accessible, and nobody notices when they are opened. Wireless sensors report every opening the moment it happens.

Your benefits

What access monitoring delivers in operation

Distributed facilities cannot be guarded. The sensor takes care of it, only reports when something happens, and needs neither cables nor a power connection to do so.

Opening is reported instantly

If a manhole cover is lifted or a secured door is opened without authorisation, the system registers it in the same moment and alerts automatically.

Retrofittable without cable trenches

Transmission runs wirelessly. At distributed and hard-to-reach measuring points, the groundwork falls away, the sensor fits into the existing stock.

Autonomous in continuous operation

The sensor works on battery power and without an on-site connection, even at sites without power and without network coverage inside a building.

Combinable with structural health monitoring

Access reports run through the same platform as water level, crack width and moisture. One access point, one alert chain, one point of contact.

Simulation

From opening to notification

The closed state is the normal case. If the cover leaves this position, the sensor detects the deviation and the notification goes out, without anyone needing to be on site.

How monitoring works

From the cover to the notification

The sensor sits on the moving part and detects its state. If it leaves the closed position, the notification goes out immediately, without anyone needing to be on site.

  1. 01

    Mounting

The sensor is fitted to the cover, door or gate. No intervention in the building fabric, no cabling.

  2. 02

    Monitoring

The closed state is the normal case. The sensor detects every deviation from it.

  3. 03

    Transmission

The notification goes via NB-IoT to the platform, even from manholes and remote locations.

  4. 04

    Alerting

Responsible parties are notified automatically so they can react before anyone works on the structure.

The properties of the sensor itself, from mounting in the manhole to the power supply and combining it with further measured variables, are gathered on the product page.

Basis for decisions

What you can decide with it

An opening notification is only worth something if it leads to an action. These are the questions it answers.

  1. 01

    Send responders or not

A reported opening is a concrete occasion with location and time, not a guess after a round.

  2. 02

Limit site visits to what is necessary

Whoever knows the condition of distributed manholes drives there with purpose instead of checking everything on a schedule.

  3. 03

    Demonstrate duty of care

An open manhole in public space is a hazard. The documented notification proves when it was known.

  4. 04

    Separate manipulation from operating procedure

Scheduled maintenance and unauthorised access look different in the log, because the timestamp runs along.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about manhole & access monitoring

What exactly does the sensor detect?
It detects whether the monitored cover, door or gate is closed. If the component leaves the closed position, that is an event and triggers the notification. The sensor does not distinguish between authorised and unauthorised access, that follows from matching against registered work.
Does the sensor need a power connection?
No. It runs on battery power and transmits via NB-IoT. This makes it deployable even where there is neither power nor network coverage, for example at standalone manholes or in remote properties.
Can monitoring be retrofitted to an existing site?
Yes, that is the standard case. Because transmission runs wirelessly, cable trenches and groundwork fall away. The sensor is fitted to the moving part, no intervention in the building fabric is required.
Who is notified in an alarm event?
You define that in the concept phase. The notification goes to the stored recipients, on request with escalation to further people if nobody reacts. The process is the same as for the other monitoring solutions.
Can access monitoring be combined with other measured variables?
Yes. In a level manhole, water level and cover opening can be captured together, at a structure crack width or moisture come in addition. All values run through the same platform, with one alert chain and one point of contact.
