Why the water level sensor

Water levels in view, without a site visit

Hard-to-reach manholes make water level monitoring labour-intensive. The water level sensor monitors wirelessly, reports critical values automatically and so saves staff and journeys.

Wireless via NB-IoT

Transmission runs directly over the mobile network. No power and no data cables to the sensor, usable even where no infrastructure exists.

Sealed even in flooding

Fully sealed components for extreme outdoor conditions. The sensor keeps working instead of failing exactly when it is needed most.

More than just water level

Besides fill levels, depending on configuration the sensor captures temperatures, pressures, meter readings or access events. One system for several tasks.

Self-sufficient operation

No fixed power or data cables required. The time-consuming, labour-intensive site visits that conventional technology needs are no longer necessary.

Analogue and digital

Values can be output as analogue and/or digital signals and brought together on the data platform.

Proactive alerting

If a threshold is exceeded or undershot, the system automatically triggers a notification, immediately rather than at the next inspection round.

Operating principle

Measuring wirelessly, reporting automatically

The sensor transmits its measured values via Narrowband IoT directly over the mobile network. This makes installation simple and allows use even where no infrastructure exists. The values come together on the data platform.

  1. 01

    Measuring

The sealed sensor measures the water or fill level, and depending on configuration also temperature, pressure or meter readings.

  2. 02

    Transmitting

The values go via NB-IoT over the mobile network to the data platform, with no fixed cabling at all.

  3. 03

    Alerting

If a stored threshold is exceeded or undershot, the system automatically triggers a notification.

Simulation

When the water level rises critically

As long as the water level stays within range, the platform reports nothing. Simulate a rising water level: once the value reaches the alarm threshold, the status changes and an automatic alert is triggered.

The difference

Conventional technology versus the water level sensor

Conventional technology

  • Often fails during flooding because it is not fully waterproof
  • Requires regular, labour-intensive site visits

  • Fixed power and data cables required

Water level sensor from Infrasolute

  • Keeps working reliably even during flooding
  • Self-sufficient, no fixed cables, less staff effort
  • Wireless transmission via NB-IoT
  • Proactive alerting for critical water levels

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How does the water level sensor transmit its measured values?
Transmission runs via Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) directly over the mobile network. No power and no data cables are required at the sensor. This means the sensor can also be used at locations where no infrastructure exists.
Does the sensor work even during flooding?
Yes. The components are fully sealed and built for extreme outdoor conditions. Unlike conventional technology, which is usually not fully waterproof, the sensor keeps working reliably even in flooding.
Which quantities can the sensor capture?
Besides water and fill levels, other factors can be monitored, such as temperatures, pressures, meter readings or access events. The values are output as analogue and/or digital signals, allowing the sensor to adapt to different measuring tasks.
Which applications is the water level sensor suitable for?
Typical applications are energy and district heating suppliers, water utilities, manhole monitoring, dams and hydraulic structures, as well as industrial facilities. Anywhere water levels at hard-to-reach locations need to be monitored, the sensor reduces staff effort.
How am I informed about critical water levels?
The sensor works with proactive monitoring and alerting. If a stored threshold is exceeded or undershot, the system automatically triggers a notification so those responsible can respond without delay.
Does the power source need to be replaced regularly?
The sensor operates self-sufficiently and needs no fixed power or data cables. This eliminates the time-consuming, labour-intensive site visits that conventional technology requires for regular power source replacement. We align the exact maintenance needs with your installation.
